MY BOOKS

The Paleo Diabetes Diet Solution

I wrote this book to help you understand blood sugar and how what you eat really matters. I mean, really matters.

One of the key themes of this book is that the food we eat is the single most important influence on our health. Food is so much more than the sum of its parts. It is the information we give our bodies that gets translated in to cellular instructions that control our health and our disease patterns.

The information in the first half of this book will help you understand how blood sugar works in the body and how the paleo approach to eating (or ancestral way of eating) can help you restore healthy blood sugar function and halt, if not reverse, the health consequences of blood sugar dysfunction and type 2 diabetes. You will also learn how to navigate eating away from home, how to read and understand food labels and how to stock your pantry with foods that will restore your health.
The second half of the book ties everything together with delicious paleo-inspired recipes that will leave you satisfied and finally in control of your blood sugar.

I absolutely love to read cookbooks from front to back as well as books on nutrition, but I seldom get to read both in one book that is entertaining and enlightening and full of amazing facts all the way to its end. The Paleo Diabetes Diet Solution is a rare book – so well put-together, well-researched, and well-detailed that from the middle of the second chapter I already knew that this was something I had to share with everyone! In short, if you’re pre-diabetic, diabetic, or not diabetic and don’t want to become diabetic, read this book! You are NOT a helpless victim; basing your menus on Paleo concepts will get you on the path to becoming un-pre-diabetic/fixing your Type 2 diabetes/avoiding a diabetic path. (And for those with Type 1, this style of eating will mean you won’t have to inject as much insulin, which is great for your body and your wallet.) The best way to enjoy better health is to enjoy better food! Lisa Howard

These two authors are right up to the minute, offering several of the latest trends, cauliflower “rice” bone broth, and other such niceties. The difference is that they combine good, solid fresh food in clever ways to bring high nutrition foods to the table in a delightfully tasty and artfully presentable manner. I love that they did not ignore the fact that sauces and other taste-enhancers are often the source of chemicals in our diet. They offer an entire chapter on sauces and dressings that are simple to make at home. Of course, the use of these comes up in many of the other recipes in the book. Simple is a watchword in the technique department here. Steps are carefully explained. Nothing is beyond the average home cook.

The format offers “tips” in boxes on each recipe page. I found them to be quite helpful. In addition they also offer tips on making the recipes with substituted ingredients, such as with the soups when they suggest that instead of making one’s own bone broth(the best way to go, they feel) you can substitute store-bought organic broth. The recipes reflect a realist command of what is available in local groceries and the limited time many folks have to devote to kitchen wizardry. In fact, their recipes could be seen as a set of magic tricks to turn good fresh ingredients into wonderful meals, from soup to main courses to side dishes and even deserts like coconut banana soft serve and snacks like kale and zucchini chips. The Best Baby Food

As a nutritionist, I have a passion for food – both talking about it and eating it. I believe that a nutritious diet is our most valuable tool for promoting our families’ health on a daily basis. Every time we feed our children we have an opportunity not only to nourish their bodies but also to expand their world.

Feeding a baby is a wonderful experience, although at times it can be frustrating. Try to relax and enjoy the process. Remember, when you make your own baby food from natural, wholesome ingredients, your are starting your child out on a pattern of healthy eating that will have lifelong benefits.

For any parent or parent-to-be, this is a great read with loads of valuable information. My wife and I were able to create many of these delicious and easy to follow recipe for our little guy and he loved them! A great feature of the book is the authors provide nutritional information and cooking tips along side of each recipe so you know exactly what you are feeding your child and can have peace-of-mind that they are receiving all the right nutrients to grow up healthy and happy.
I highly recommend this book. It has been a great addition for our little guy and it will be used for years to come. Carmen Deacetis

I really appreciate the beginning section. I find so much of the literature out there on pesticides and toxins can be overwhelming, so I like that the information is manageable and motivating. And I like that I can make these foods with utensils and equipment that we already have. I want to be informed and choose healthy things for my baby. Melissa P.
